Austrian Space Forum keen to receive applications from Oman for next analog mission

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Austrian Space Forum (OeWF) which is conducting the Mars Analog Mission (AMADEE-18) in Dhofar in partnership with Oman National Steering Committee is looking ahead to continue its fruitful partnership with Oman's scientific community.

In an emailed reply to Muscat Daily, OeWF said, 'The Sultanate of Oman is one of our most important partners in this mission. We really do appreciate the support, reliability and generosity. We don't have any specific plans for our next missions yet, but we are looking forward to resuming our partnership.'

OeWF stated that it is considering selecting a new class of analog astronauts in the course of the next few years to add to its current experts, who are right now emulating a mission to the red planet. 'This will be initiated by an international call to apply for the next class of OeWF Analog Astronauts. We would be delighted to receive applications from Oman.' OeWF said that the AMADEE-18 mission in Oman will play a vital role in inspiring and educating the next generation of students.

'With the AMADEE-18 mission, the Austrian Space Forum, in partnership with the Oman Astronomical Society, wants to inspire and educate the next generation of students and future space scientists. Part of that endeavour is the experiment 'water explorer', where Omani students are investigating possible ways to search for water on Mars.'

Regarding the analog mission in Dhofar which will continue till February 28, OeWF said, 'All the results gained in this mission will at first be returned to the respective research teams to allow them to process the data and issue the results in their publications. However, we also add the data to our multi-mission science data archive to use in future missions. We are planning to conduct a post-mission conference in Austria in May to present the results to the scientific community and interested general public. We don't have a specific date yet, but will issue the information in due time.'

OeWF said that it offers internships at the suit lab where it develops the spacesuit simulator used in the mission. 'We issue calls to apply on a regular basis through our channels (like portal homepage, Facebook). We would be very pleased to receive applications from Oman.'
