Wasiak tops sixth leg of Royal Air Maroc League


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Szymon Wasiak emerged as the champion of the sixth leg of the Royal Air Maroc Cycling League, which concluded in Al Ghuwayriya near Al Zubara Fort in northern Qatar last weekend.
Wasiak, a first time champion in the league, topped the 92km leg, which was divided into five laps, in the professional category, but not after the cyclists had to brave strong winds through the course of the race.
The sixth leg of the league began at 7:30am from near Al Shamal in foggy weather.
Wasiak was nowhere near the front in the first four laps, but managed to catch up in the final lap before sprinting for the win in the last few 100m, crossing the finish line in a time of 2:11:33.
Chris Morin and Tom Witley finished second and third respectively.
Women's first category has witnessed a close competition, with Jolie Milves winning with a race time of 1:50:44.
Alvin Ross Marino topped the Men B category in a time of 1:54:44, while Jaco Anderson picked up silver, ahead of Faberico Forschino.
In the Women B category, Elizabet Dani won gold with a race time of 1:35:45, with teammate Shawna Garbert in second and Carmela Lord in.
Andy Clark won Men C category in a time of 1:35:45, with Barry Stoddart and Oliver Geist finishing second and third respectively.
