Pakistan- PHC requested to transfer Asma Rani's murder case to Peshawar


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR, 19 February: The Peshawar High Court has been requested to transfer the trial of Asma Rani's murder case from Kohat to the provincial metropolis.

A petition has been filed by Asma Rani's brother Muhammad Irfan in which he expressed the apprehensions that since the opponents are powerful people of the town, they might influence the trial. The petitioner has feared that his family members were feeling threatened while pursuing the case.

The petitioner stated that one of the relatives of the alleged murderer is the district president of the ruling party in the province, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) while another relative is a member of the National Assembly.

He has further mentioned that the family members of the accused is having influence on the legal fraternity of the district bar association, adding, they could not find any lawyer to fight the case for them due to the alleged threats of the opponent.

The petitioner has also alleged that the family members of the accused have been hurling death threats at them on every hearing, praying the high court to transfer the trial of the case to Peshawar as soon as possible.

Asma Rani, a third-year student of the Ayub Medical College, Abbotabad, was shot dead near her home in Kohat on January 28 after she reportedly refused a marriage proposal from one of the shooters.

The brother of the victim girl, Irfan had charged Mujahidullah and Sadiqullah in the police report. According to police, the prime suspect in the case, Mujahidullah has escaped from the country while his brother and a co-accused, Sadiqullah has been arrested by police.

Asma had also nominated Mujahidullah in a statement she recorded before her death. The statement was widely shared on social media websites.
