OSCE ODIHR mission to visit Baku

A mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) will visit Azerbaijan to gather information on the upcoming presidential election, the office told Trend on Feb.19.

"A small team of election experts from ODIHR will be in Baku on Wednesday and Thursday to gather information, on which to base a recommendation on what – if any – format of observation our Office will carry out for the 11 April election," the office said.

The needs assessment mission's report, including the recommendation on the format of any observation mission, should be released within two weeks of the needs assessment mission's visit.

Next presidential election in Azerbaijan is to be held on April 11, 2018, according to an order signed Feb. 5 by the country's President Ilham Aliyev.Pre-election agitation campaign in Azerbaijan will begin on March 19, 2018 and end on April 10, 2018 at 08:00.

The Central Election Committee (CEC) of Azerbaijan has received six appeals to observe the presidential election to be held on April 11, Chairman of the CEC Mazahir Panahov said at a meeting on Feb. 17. He said that all appeals received a positive response.
