New Zealand fertility rate decline hits lowest level

(MENAFN) New Zealand's statistics department Stats NZ has found a decline in last year's fertility rates to 1.81 deliveries per woman.

The findings indicate New Zealand to have hit its lowest rate, with an average of 1.81 births per woman for the rest of their lives.

Stats NZ speculate the decline to have appeared as a result of overpopulation, and not due to the decrease in child deliveries.

Population statistics senior manager Peter Dolan explained "while the fertility rate is now the lowest ever seen, the total New Zealand population continues to grow, driven by near-record levels of migration in 2017."
