Bengaluru Cong MLA's son booked for assaulting injured man
18 Feb 2018

A Bengaluru Youth Congress leader and an MLA's son has been booked for allegedly thrashing an injured man at a restaurant, and then again at the hospital.

The Congress has expelled Mohammed Haris Nalapad, son of MLA NA Harris, for six years.

BJP and JD(S) alleged Harris was trying to "hush up the case," but he says he doesn't know where his son is.

Argument broke out reportedly over how the victim was sitting
Details

An argument broke out between Nalapad, his supporters and the victim, identified as Vidwath, in a UB City restaurant.

They were apparently upset about the way Vidwath, who had a plastered leg, was sitting, and started raining blows on him.

Later, he was rushed to Mallya Hospital, but Nalapad and his group followed and allegedly beat him up at the hospital again.

Action

There were reports Harris later visited Vidwath at the hospital, triggering allegations he was trying to get the case removed, but he denied the accusations.

Bengaluru Police have since filed an FIR against Nalapad and 10 of his supporters for the assault.

However, Nalapad is absconding and no arrests have been made yet.

BJP claims he has been involved in similar brawls earlier too.

Incident could hurt Congress' election prospects
Elections

This could cause major embarrassment to the Congress ahead of state elections later this year, for which campaigning has already begun.

But according to the BJP, the only reason action was taken against him was because elections are coming.

Meanwhile, actor Prakash Raj also faced flak after an old video of him praising Nalapad surfaced. Raj responded by demanding "strongest action against such acts."
