UAE- Several caravans gutted in RAK fire

A massive fire broke out in a number of caravans at the Khat area in Ras Al Khaimah for no clear reason.

Official sources with the RAK civil defence department said that one of the caravans was used as rest areas for workers. "The high flames quickly engulfed the first caravan and then spread to the nearby caravans which were all totally gutted in the blaze."

The flames also spread to an adjacent car, they added. "The bonnet of the car was damaged in the fire."

The central operations room of the RAK Police, having alerted of the fire, dispatched firefighters, ambulances, paramedics and rescue teams to the site in a record time.

The civil defence firefighters managed to put out the fire, and no human casualties were reported in the caravan fire. "Firefighters managed to put out the flames using water and foam, and cooled down the caravans so that the fire does not start again or spread to nearby properties."

Investigations are on to identify the reasons behind the fire, they stated. "The case has been referred to the bodies concerned to identify the owner of the caravans, and find the reasons behind the blaze."
