Death toll rises to 9 in marriage function cylinder blasts in India


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency ) The death toll from cooking gas cylinder blasts during a marriage function in India's western state of Rajasthan Saturday rose to nine, officials said, reported.

A total of 21 people were injured in the blasts.

Two cylinders exploded Friday night, causing a building to collapse at Beawar town of Ajmer district, about 185 km west of Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan.

"The death toll in the cylinder blasts has risen to nine and 21 others were also injured," an official at district office Ajmer said. "The injured, some of whom are critical, are undergoing treatment in Beawar, Ajmer, Bhilwara and Jaipur hospitals."

According to police, the blasts were triggered due to leakage in one of the cooking gas cylinders used during the marriage function to prepare food.
