(MENAFN- Daily Outlook Afghanistan) KABUL - Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah on Saturday said what the jihad against the Soviet Union proved was that 'nothing could be forcibly imposed on the Afghans.
Addressing a ceremony at the Presidential Palace marking the 29th anniversary of the former Soviet forces' withdrawal from Afghanistan, the CEO said the pride and honor of the Jihad belonged to all people of Afghanistan.
'Celebration of this day, the honor of the nation, we should pay serious head to the martyrs' families, people with disabilities, refugees and displaced people, he said.
However, he said the Afghan Jihad proved a few points. At the time the then regime issued orders without knowledge of the people and thought the presidency belonged to them.
'They thought their command would be practiced in every corner of the country which was a big mistake in that time.
He added: 'What the Afghan people's Jihad proved was nothing can be imposed on this nation as the Soviet Union could not succeed.
Abdullah said the country faced serious security threats, poverty and unemployment and decisions on the national level required adequate consultations and discussion in order to preserve the national unity. (Pajhwok)
