Aspire Zone gears up for 'new wave of sport activities'


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Following the National Sport Day celebration, Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) has said its team of logistics experts has resumed preparations for a wider range of events for all family members at its facilities.
With activities on offer for all members of the community through the year, events to be held next month include the second Aspire International Kite Festival, Esrar Race 2018 and the Temba tournament, AZF has said in a press statement.
'Tuesday's National Sport Day 2018 celebration at Aspire Zone, the biggest of its kind in the country, brought together some of Qatar's most prominent local government and private organisations, attracted thousands of visitors and marked yet another successful key event for Aspire Zone Foundation, the statement noted.
This year's National Sport Day programme featured several key sporting events, including the Fun Run, Staff Walk and Staff Volleyball Tournament. The latter was attended by HE the Minister of Culture and Sports Salah bin Ghanem bin Nasser al-Ali and Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy secretary-general Hassan al-Thawadi, along with senior members of AZF.
The Aspire Academy team won this year's tournament. Team members included Abdallah al-Afifi, Hassan al-Janahi, Ismaeel AlSheeb, Mohamed Abu Wattfa, Isa Haji, Ahmed al-Lahori, Saleh Albriki and Ghassan Alyahri. The team was managed by Ali Sultan Fakhroo, Badr al-Hay and Khalid al-Hamar.
‘Football Performance and Science Activities' experts set up football skills demonstrations on the Indoor Football Pitch. A series of entertaining multi-skill activities was organised for boys and girls as well as Teamwork Challenges that foster teamwork and co-operation.
The final matches and award ceremonies of the Aspire Football Tournament were also held on Aspire Zone's outdoor pitches 2, 3 and 5 as part of the National Sport Day 2018 celebration, comprising separate competitions between youth teams in three age groups (2006, 2007 and 2010 birth years) from Aspire and the Qatar Football Association's registered teams.
The winners of the competitions were Muaither SC (2006 age group), Al Gharafa SC (2007) and the Aspire team (2010).
Elaborating on the upcoming events, AZF said it will unveil the second Aspire International Kite Festival a three-day spectacle taking place at Aspire Park for the second year running on March 6-9. Thousands of visitors are expected to attend this year's Aspire International Kite Festival, according to the statement.
AZF has also announced that it will launch, along with the Kite Festival, a competition for amateur and professional photographers in Qatar. This is being done in collaboration with the Qatar Photographic Society. Entrants will compete for a chance to win prizes and the honour of being crowned the 2018 Aspire International Kite Festival Photography Competition winner.
Meanwhile, the Esrar Race is back by ‘popular demand', AZF has said. The 5km obstacle course, which tests participants' mental and physical strength, returns for the second year at Aspire Park on March 23 and 24, from 7.30-11am. The event is co-organised by AZF and Diverse sports events management company. It is sponsored by the Mövenpick Hotel Al Aziziyah Doha.
In addition to the open category for single male and female competitions, this year's version will also include the team relay category for friends and family members looking to support each other. AZF will also launch the second edition of the Temba tournament on its five-a-side football pitches this March. A large number of teams made up of football enthusiasts will take part.
Further details about the competition will be unveiled at a later date on AZF's social media channels or through the Life in Aspire website and smartphone application.
