Qatar's Rashid Nawaf wins international junior tennis


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar's Rashid Nawaf won the international junior championships (under 14 years), which was held in Paris with the participation of 250 players from around the world.
Nawaf won the title with a comfortable 6-4, 6-4 win over Macedonia's Kalin Ivanowski in the final match on Friday.
The Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation dispatched the national team player Rashid Nawaf to the famous French Mouratoglou academy more than a month ago as part of the Qatari players' scholarship programme, and he participated in the tournament that was held there.
'We are very proud of this title achieved by Rashid Nawaf shortly after his dispatch to France and we look forward that he will add more achievements to his career and become a world champion, said chairman of the National Teams Committee, Khalid al-Khulaifi.
He added that the Qatar Tennis Federation (QTF) seeks to develop Qatari stars through the implementation of a number of programmes, including sending Qatari players to international academies abroad and preparing plans in co-ordination with these academies to participate in the largest number of international tournaments in order to improve their competitiveness.
