Venezuela: presidential election to not be joined by opposition party

(MENAFN) Venezuelan opposition party Popular Will (VP) has emphasized it "will not field nor support any candidate" for the 2018 presidential elections.

The date for this year's presidential elections has been declared by Venezuela's electoral body National Electoral Council (CNE) to have been set for 22 April.

During the discussion with the right-wing opposition in the Dominican Republic over setting a date for the election, the government has signed a document with the date specified in it.

The VP is considered as the first member of the opposition coalition Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD) to deny backing up any opposition nominee.
