Zimbabwe: university chancellor detained over former first lady Mugabe doctorate

(MENAFN) Zimbabwe has detained its oldest university's vice chancellor for former first lady Grace Mugabe's doctorate controversy.

University of Zimbabwe's vice chancellor Levi Nyagura is to stand before court Saturday on charges of abuse of office, as anti-Corruption Commission spokeswoman Phyllis Chikundura confirmed he was put under arrest on Friday.

The former first lady has gotten her doctorate in 2014, with accusations emerging that she didn't earn it as her husband, former president Robert Mugabe, was the chancellor of the university.

The university was urged by the spokeswoman to offer "paper trail" presenting the registration and academic progression of Grace Mugabe.
