Doha: Cultural Forum's 'Expats SportEv 2018 drew a massive response from the expatriate community at Al Sadd Sports Club marking the National Sport Day in style.
The day's events started with a colourful march past which was hugely participated by all the 16 teams competing in the event. Capt. Kapil Kaushik, Defence Attache at the Indian Embassy, received a salute from the participants, led by Kerala's top school athlete and record holder in 100 metres hurdles in the national senior school athletics championship, Aparna Roy. Ali Faraj Al Ghanem, Sports Director of Al Sadd Sports Club, delivered a felicitation speech on the occasion.
Hundreds of children joined the athletes and team officials in putting up a spectacular display of solidarity with Qatar and the Sport Day. The teams, in an attempt to come on top in the march past competition, displayed talent and innovative methods to turn the entire event a very captivating one.
Capt. Kaushik and M S Bukhari, Corporate Relations Chairman at Indian Sports Centre, handed over the meet's torch to Aparna Roy and Expats SportEv General Convener, Majeed Ali. Indian Community Benevolent Forum Vice -President, P N Baburaj, Indian Cultural Centre General Secretary, Jootas Paul, handed over the sports meet's flags to Cultural Forum General Secretary Sadiq Ali, and Ladies Sports Convener, Abida Subair.
In a show of solidarity with Qatar's ongoing efforts to host the prestigious World Cup 2022, a colourful balloon releasing ceremony was held with KMCC President, SAM Bashir; Incas General Secretary, Siddeeq Purayil; Samskruthi President, Sunil; Shantinikethan Indian School President, K C Abdullatheef; Qatar Indian Football Forum General Secretary, Haider Ali; QIA President, E P AbdulRahman and Friends Cultural Centre Executive Director, Habiburahman Kizhissery, taking part.
Also present on the occasion were Mohammed Ismail, Director of E3 Theme Park, platinum sponsor of the event, and Sujith Kumar, Team Leader, ISUZU Motors, Golden Sponsor, who presented mementos to some of the guests.
