(MENAFN) After fourteen years had passed since he was first placed at the top of the rankings, tennis star Roger Federer declared it was a "dream come true" to earn the title of the oldest world number one in the history of the sport.
In the past eight of the Rotterdam Open, Swiss Federer has defeated Robin Haase 4-6 6-1 6-1, allowing him to take the place of Rafael Nadal at the top of the rankings.
The tennis idol commented on is victory "when you're older you have to work double the amount. You have to wrestle it back from someone who's worked hard to get there."
He continued "reaching number one is the ultimate achievement in tennis. It's been an amazing journey and to clinch it here, where I got my first wildcard in 1998, means so much."
