QFA president backs Iraq to host Gulf Cup


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar Football Association and Gulf Football Federation president Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed al-Thani has affirmed that Qatar would willingly vote for Iraq at the meeting of the GCC associations to determine the host country for the 24th Gulf Cup tournament.
'We are very happy to be in the Iraqi capital. The visit would not be the last one in the light of the joint projects with the Iraqi association in the near future, Sheikh Hamad was quoted as saying during a press conference by Al Sumaria News.
He added: 'It is very important for us that Iraqi football return to its former status at the Asian and GCC level, which would have its positive reflections.
'The Qatari association is strongly supporting to enhance the efforts of lifting the ban on the Iraqi football venues through its relationship with the FIFA on one side, and through the presence of Qatari association in Iraq and playing matches on the other side.
He pointed out that there are many benefits for both the Qatari and Iraqi associations from the agreements signed in Doha recently, including exchange of expertise in different fields related to development of football in both countries, in addition to playing international and friendly matches, and hosting training camps.
