A rescue dog in Taiwan has been hailed a hero for finding earthquake survivors trapped in rubble while taking part in its first mission in the field.
In a video released by the Fire Bureau of Taichung City, Tie Hsiung, a Labrador whose name translates as "Iron Hero," is seen sniffing for survivors and alerting rescuers to a human presence.
Agencies reported that he discovered one survivor who had been trapped in the rubble for 15 hours, and another person who subsequently died.
The dog received an outpouring of support from across Taiwan, including from the mayor of Taichung, the city which sent him to assist in rescue efforts, local media reported.
The 6.4 magnitude earthquake, which struck the coastal city of Hualien on Tuesday, has killed at least 10 people and aftershocks have hampered rescue efforts.
