Parubiy wishes Ukrainian athletes victories at Winter Olympics


(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Verkhovna Rada Chairman Andriy Parubiy has wished the Ukrainian team victories at the XXIII Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.

He stated this, while opening a morning plenary meeting of parliament on Friday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"The 23rd Winter Olympics opens today. This is the seventh Winter Olympics, in which the Ukrainian team has participated since the proclamation of Ukraine's independence. Thirty-three of our athletes will compete in nine sports. On behalf of the Verkhovna Rada, I wish our athletes a victory and that the anthem of Ukraine would be played more often during the awarding of medals. Ukraine means victory," the speaker said.

Ukrainians will compete with the best athletes of the planet in nine out of 15 sports, in particular, biathlon (11 athletes), figure skating (four), luge (six), freestyle skiing (three), cross-country skiing (four), alpine skiing (two), snowboard (one), skeleton (one), and Nordic combined (one).
