Biryani Festival launched


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) A large number of biryani lovers, both Qataris and expatriates, witnessed the opening ceremony of the 'first-ever Biryani Festival in Qatar at the Hotel Park opposite Sheraton Grand Doha Resort & Convention Hotel yesterday in a 'family fun-filled environment, the organisers said. More than 45 exhibitors are showcasing their skills at the event, which ends on February 10. Over 100 types of biryani, including Mughlai, Lucknow gosht, Kashmiri vegetable, mussels, prawns, hara macchi, egg, harkmas (beef), Malabar chicken, Mattanjery chicken, Kayikka's beef, Thalassery mutton, the traditional Afghani and Irani and other varieties, are on offer at the festival, according to a press statement by the organisers, Four and One. The opening ceremony was attended by a number of dignitaries, including the ambassador of Cyprus, Dr Michalis Zacharioglou, as well as officials from Qatar Tourism Authority, Four and One and Strategic Partners Alliance.
Attendees at the event 'were treated to an array of spiced up delicacies, industry suppliers and traders, entertainment, cultural displays, competitions and various fun activities for children, the statement noted.
The family-oriented event, partnered by Talabat, Zamatoe, Marhaba, Urban Point and QTouch Media & Events, caters to vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike in addition to biryani lovers, the organisers have said. The four-day entry-free event features celebrity oriental chefs, cooking competitions, games and a kids' play zone.
