KUWAIT CITY, Feb 6: The Parliament, in its regular session Tuesday, rejected the request of the Public Prosecution to lift the immunity of MP Ahmed Fadel as per the report of the Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee.
The lawmakers also looked into requests to tackle the housing issue, governmental procedures for providing houses to citizens, housing plan in the coming years and infrastructure for housing projects.
The Parliament decided to allot two hours of Wednesday's session to address reports which have been on the agenda for a long time, in addition to the report on the proposed number of persons will be granted citizenship every year and recruitment of non-Kuwaitis in the Army.
Meanwhile, Parliament Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim said the lawmakers reached an agreement on the agenda for the next session after coordinating with the proponents of various proposals. He urged the MPs to submit discussion requests before the session to avoid confusion in the work mechanism and agenda.
He disclosed that items in the agenda for Wednesday's session include requests for discussion of committees' reports on a number of bills as follows:
■ Report of the Budgets and Final Accounts Committee about the comments of the State Audit Bureau, final report of the Ministry of Interior and decision of the Parliament on financial irregularities in the ministry during fiscals 2014/2015 and 2015/2016.
■ Report of the Foreign Affairs Committee on agreements between the government of the State of Kuwait and that of a number of friendly countries, international bodies and organizations.
■ Report of the Interior and Defense Affairs Committee on the draft law presented by the government to amend Article 29 of Army Law No. 32/1967.
■ Report of the Interior and Defense Affairs Committee on several proposals to amend Amiri Decree No. 15/1959 on the Nationality Law. Furthermore, the Parliament set sessions for Feb 13 and Feb 14 instead of Feb 20 and Feb 21 because the national holidays will fall on Sunday and Monday — Feb 25 and 26. In another development, MP Mohammed Al-Dalal has threatened to grill Minister of Finance Naif Al- Hajraf on Feb 20, 2018 if the latter fails to submit the new economic document which, he stressed, should be discussed in an open session. On the other hand, Al-Hajraf affirmed his ministry is ready to discuss the economic document adding, 'I invited MP Mohammed A-Dalal to a meeting more than once to review the document, but he insisted on presenting it at a parliamentary session and then threatened to grill me.'
