Beloved father of series Fraiser, John Mahoney, breathes his last

John Mahoney, who was famous for his role of a dog-loving father Martin Crane in popular sitcom Fraiser, passed away on Sunday.

The 77-year-old British actor was admitted in a Chicago health care, where he breathed his last. He was suffering from cancer.

Mahoney's portrayal of Martin earned him two Emmy nominations, two Golden Globe nominations and a Screen Actors Guild award.

Born in Blackpool, England, Mahoney made Chicago his adopted home town. He served the US army for three years, and said it helped him get away with the accent.

He started his acting career in the 1970s, and joined the Steppenwolf Theatre.

With the 1987 release Tin Men, Mahoney made his feature film debut.

'Home' first


Mahoney's role in Fraiser got him a lot of recognition, but he eventually got tired of travelling from Chicago to Los Angeles.

He had said he would have continued with Fraiser, had the show been shot in Chicago, but he just missed home.

The humble actor Mahoney, once said he misses theatre and wouldn't regret anything if he never came on camera again.
