Oman- TRA stall educates visitors on methods to monitor children's use of ICT devices

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has set up a stall at the Muscat Festival to promote Child Online Protection Campaign.

According to a press release, the initiative aims at providing a safe environment for children while using ICT devices, without being exposed to the potential risks.

It also aims at raising public awareness in this regard.

The campaign encourages the adoption of the best practises on proper usage of telecommunication services and devices and seeks to educate parents on the optimal methods to monitor their children's use of ICT devices while maintaining constant interaction with them.

Through this participation, the campaign also intends to introduce key characters Aref and Zero to the public. The former is an Omani tech genius who is keen to keep children safe, and gives them smart tips to deal with the situations while using ICT devices.
Zero is a space robot who faces many difficulties when he uses ICT services and Aref in turn helps him overcome them.

The stall at the festival also features a mural to encourage children to share their ICT experiences with their peers by writing something.

The stall also has a sample contract for parents and children on the best possible ways to use ICT devices.

Certain guidelines will also be handed out to visiting parents.

The campaign was initially launched in December last year with the participation of the ROP, ministries of Education, Social Development and Health, and the Public Authority for Radio and Television, Public Prosecution and representatives from organisations of civil society and with the support of several other companies.
