(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) TUNIS, Jan 23 (KUNA) -- An expert team from Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) started a visit to Tunisia to study the possible financing for healthcare projects as part of a KD 24 million (USD 79.2 million) loan to the country.
The Fund offered the loan to Tunisia as well as a grant of KD 300,000 (nearly USD 990,000) in last November, Kuwait Ambassador to Tunisia Ali Al-Dhefiri, who accompanied the delegation of the Fund in a tour of the central Governorate of Siliana, told KUNA on Tuesday.
The projects include the rehabilitation and upgrading of the casualty departments of a hospital in Al-Aroussa town, Siliana governorate, at a cost of USD 368,000, and similar projects in Kairouan, Monastir, Gafsa, Sousse, Kebili and Tozeur, he added.
On his part, Saud Al-Ammar, KFAED's engineering consultant, said the Fund pledged late last year to help upgrade the healthcare sector and provide the casualty departments of hospitals with the latest medical equipment.
The USD 990,000 grant will be channeled to the construction of four hospitals and cancer treatment centers in Tunis, he added.
KFAED has been one of the major contributors to Tunisia's development since 1963 with a the total value of contributions amounting to KD 172.9 million which went to 33 projects. (end) ksj.gb
