Capacity of Baku Port increased

The capacity of the new Baku International Sea Trade Port in the village of Alat after the completion of the first phase of construction will amount to 15 million tons of cargo per year.

The Company reported that adviser for special affairs of the Bureau of the Food Industry and the Export Promotion Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan Tsunemasa Teramoto visited the Port.

During the visit, the chief adviser of the Director General of the Baku International Sea Trade Port, Rashad Karimov, informed the guest about the trade relations of the Baku port with foreign countries and cargo turnover.

Teramoto, in turn, said that the Baku Port is one of the most important points for the export of Japanese products to Europe and cooperation with the port is of great importance for trade relations between East and West.

Earlier, it was reported that after the completion of the first phase the Baku Port will be able to receive up to 10-11 million tons of cargo each year, and annually handle up to 50,000 TEU.

At the second stage, the capacity of the cargo pass of the port will reach 25 million tons of cargo and 500,000 TEU.

The Port of Baku is located on an area of 400 hectares of land, of which about 100-115 ha cover the area for the development of the international Logistics and Trade Zone. The northern areas around the port are reserved for future expansion of logistics, industrial, and manufacturing activity.

The Port is expected to become one of the leading trade and logistics hubs of Eurasia. The implementation of all 3 phases of construction is projected to increase the capacity up to 7,660 tons on a daily basis.
