Pakistan- Jirga in Lakki Marwat boycott immunisation drive to protest Power suspension


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) LAKKI MARWAT: Residents of Terikhel area of Lakki Marwat on Monday boycotted anti-polio drive in protest against power suspension by power company since last several days in the area.

The decision to boycott the drive was taken at a jirga held here the other day and vowed to continue their boycott till the government restored the electricity.

Announcements were made from mosques following which Adamzai and Behramkhel tribes also seconded the decision and warned polio workers to stay away from their areas as they would not allow them to vaccinate their children.

Locals said that Water and Power Development Authority disconnected power supply three days ago for non-payment of utility bills and arrears that would remain suspended till its payment, authority concerned said.

A three-day anti-polio drive started from today (Monday) throughout Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where 5.7 million children under five years of age would be vaccinated against the crippling disease of which 173,000 children are from the villages that has announced the boycott in Lakki Marwat district. Similarly, around one 1.25 million kids would be administered the vaccine.
