(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The Ukrainian Defense Ministry has rejected accusations by the Russian General Staff regarding Ukraine's alleged involvement in an attack on a Russian base in Syria and calls them another fake and an informational attack, the ministry's spokesperson, Viktoria Kushnir, has told an Ukrinform reporter.
"This is another information attack. We reject these accusations, and, of course, this information attack is carried out, first of all, to cover Russia's actions in Crimea and in Donetsk and Luhansk, where arms are supplied from Russia," Kushnir said.
Earlier media reports said that the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces had admitted that Ukraine might be involved in an attack on a Russian base in Syria. According to Major General Alexander Novikov, head of the UAV construction and development department of the General Staff, preliminary research has shown that PETN was used as a base for an explosive substance used in ammunition, which is more powerful than hexogen. The specified explosive is produced in a number of countries, including at Ukraine's Shostka Chemical Reagents Plant, according to Novikov.
On January 8, the Russian Defense Ministry said that Russian airbases in Syria were attacked by 13 drones handed over to terrorists by "one of the countries with high technological capabilities to provide satellite navigation."
