Venus at 'superior conjunction' with sun tomorrow

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Venus will be at ‘superior conjunction' with the sun at 9am Doha time tomorrow, Qatar Calendar House (QCH) has said.
During the ‘superior conjunction', the centre of three celestial objects (sun, earth and Venus) will be aligning along a straight line. While the sun will be between Venus and earth, Venus will be at its farthest point from the earth, according to a statement issued jointly by QCH director Dr Mohamed al-Ansari and noted astronomer
Dr Beshir Marzouk.
'Venus will pass very close to the sun and it will be impossible to observing the planet from earth's surface on that day, Dr
Marzouk explained.
The ‘superior conjunction' of Venus is an important astronomical phenomenon because it is marks the end of Venus's apparition in the morning sky before sunrise. It is an indicator of Venus's transition from the morning sky (over the eastern horizon) to the evening sky (over the western horizon), the statement notes.
People in Qatar will be able to observe Venus with the naked eye over the western horizon in the first week of February, Dr Marzouk said, adding that the gap between the setting time of Venus and sunset time will increase over the next few weeks.
Venus was at ‘superior conjunction' with the sun on June 2, 2016, while the next superior conjunction is scheduled to take place on August 14, 2019, QCH adds.
There are two types of conjunction: ‘inferior' and ‘superior'. While the ‘superior conjunction' pertains to all planets in the solar system, an ‘inferior conjunction' only affects two planets - Mercury and Venus, the statement adds.
