(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Shoppers rushed to various malls for their year-end shopping needs as the 23rd edition of the annual Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) kicked off across Dubai on Tuesday.
At midday, roads leading to some malls started experiencing heavy traffic; parking spaces were hard to find and some Metro stations registered higher footfall as shoppers took advantage of the huge discounts ranging between 25 to 90 per cent at Mall of the Emirates, City Centre Mirdif, City Centre Deira, City Centre Me'aisem, City Centre Barsha and City Centre Al Shindagha.
The super sale started from 12pm and will run until midnight giving customers the chance to get their hands on amazing deals. Moreover, shoppers who spend Dh300 during the 12 hours enter into a draw to grab the grand prize of Dh50,000 worth of shopping vouchers.
Shoppers are also being treated to in-mall entertainment. Over at Dubai Mall, drummers, harpists and musical waiters provide music and cultural festival.
Chinese national Li Zhu, who has been in Dubai for the first time, told Khaleej Times that he is amazed by the colourful shopping tradition in the emirate. "There is music, fireworks display and of course prices of many shopping items are very tempting," he said.
Shoppers looked for the best deals in jewelry, gold, fashion items and gadgets. Some also planned to redecorate their homes for the coming New Year while others bought late Christmas gifts for their families and friends.
Staff at the malls also showed their excitement for the annual shopping festival. Filipino expat Aimee Payoyo said DSF means more sales for their company and more sales means bonus for them (staff).
The shopping extravaganza will run daily until January 27, offering tourists and residents five weeks of incredible shopping experiences.
