The urn is heading back to Australia. It is a time for celebrations in Australia, as Steven Smith and his boys secured the Ashes series with a thumping victory in the third test at Perth.

The home side won by an innings and 41 runs riding on Steven Smith fabulous double ton.

This is Australia's 9th comprehensive Ashes victory. For the 9th time, Australia have won the Ashes in the first three tests. England's only such triumph came back in 1928-29.

Five England bowlers conceded more than 100 runs during Australia's 1st innings. This is only the 8th such instance in test cricket's history, and the third for England.

Australia continued their dominance over England at WACA with their 8th successive victory over the visitors. The record has been held since 1991 and the only time they drew a fixture was back 1986.

Australia total of 662/9 in the first Innings was their third highest score at home. The highest was 735 for 6 in 2003 which was also at the same ground

Smith's blazing knock of 239 coupled with Mitchell Marsh's maiden Test century had taken the test away from England

Smith has now scored 1000 plus runs in Test cricket in four consecutive years.

He is the second cricketer to achieve the feat and is only behind former Australian opener Mathew Hayden who achieved the feat 5 times between 2001 and 2005.

Smith 239 was the third highest score by an Australian captain in an Ashes Test behind Bob Simpson and Don Bradman.

Steven Smith needed just 108 innings to score 22 Test centuries. He is their third quickest to this feat behind Don Bradman who needed 58 innings and Sunil Gavaskar who took 101 innings.

Nathan Lyon has been Moeen Ali's nightmare after falling to the spinner for the 5th time in this series. Moeen has scored 68 out of 168 balls off Lyon at an average of 13.60.

David Malan scored his maiden Test Century for England. This is the first century by an English player in Australia since Ben Stokes's 120 at Perth in 2013.
