Iran and Azerbaijan will always be friends, said speaker of the Iranian parliament, Ali Larijani.
He made the remarks at a meeting with Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan, Vasif Talibov, in Tehran.
Larijani noted that the Iran-Azerbaijan relations have a very ancient history and these two countries have always supported each other.
Iran is serious in its friendship with Azerbaijan, said Larijani, adding, "We will always stand by our friends."
Larijani added that the high level of cultural relations between the two countries allows expanding political and economic relations.
He said Iran and Azerbaijan should expand cooperation in political and security spheres and help peacebuilding in the region.
Touching upon the issue of the status of the Caspian Sea, Larijani said there were fruitful negotiations between the leaders of the two countries.
Vasif Talibov, for his part, spoke about the friendly relations of the two countries and added that the increase in tourist inflow is an indicator of this friendship.
