DUBAI, 17th December, 2017 (WAM) -- Union Coop, the largest cooperative in the UAE, has announced a project to train five students from universities and research institutions from around the world in the field of genetic diseases, as well as to support the Sheikh Zayed Laboratory for Research, where the students will be trained, and the UAE Genetic Diseases Association.
This cooperation is outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, signed by Suhail Al Bastaki, Director of the Marketing and Happiness Department at the Union Coop, and Dr. Maryam Matar, Founder and Executive Director of the UAE Genetic Diseases Association.
Al Bastaki said that due to its commitment to fulfilling its social responsibility, Union Coop has supported the UAE Genetic Diseases Association for the second year, to train university and research centre students from throughout the world in the field of genetics and scientific research. This is part of the Coop's contribution to maintaining the Association's efforts for limiting genetic diseases, with the goal of freeing the UAE from such diseases.
Dr. Matar praised the efforts of Union Coop in contributing to the Association's efforts to limit the spread of hereditary and genetic diseases. She said the Coop is a role model for national institutes that work hard to realise the vision of the leadership by supporting and carrying out high-quality and sustainable initiatives and programmes.
She added that this MoU would contribute to supporting innovative talents in the field of genetics, which should reflect positively upon the Association's goals in assisting the community.
