Pollard stars as Kerala trounce Sri Lankans

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) See ball, hit ball, it seemed and West Indian allrounder Kieron Pollard followed that to the 'T.'

The six sixes were as hefty as his muscular mass and as tall as his height and a generous spread across three overs interspersed between a tiny drizzle, zipped the Kerala Kings home against Team Sri Lanka in the T10 League. Pollard's nonchalant and ruthless massacre of the Lankans saw Kerala Kings breeze past on a chilly Saturday night, with eight wickets in hand and 11 deliveries remaining, according to the Duckworth Lewis Method.

The target had been 113 before lightening was accompanied by a not too threatening drizzle. The Kerala Kings were 67 for two in five overs, at that point when play was stopped, with Pollard's compatriot and opener Chadwick Walton holding the reins. Walton was on 47 from 21 balls with seven boundaries and two sixes and he was to end up without adding to his score as Pollard's pummelling took centre stage.

Pollard was on 15 from five deliveries with two boundaries at that time, with the Kerala Kings needing 46 from 30 balls and with eight wickets in hand.

On resumption, the target was revised to 91 required from eight overs, which meant 24 needed from 18 deliveries.

Clearly, Pollard was in no mood to hang around and had had enough of it, and he unleashed mayhem before the storm could threaten again.

Pollard began with a nonchalant six over long on off Vishwa Fernando, After a dot ball,Vishwa dug it in short and Pollard ruthlessly pulled it over midwicket for another six.

Another dot ball followed and then the next ball was whipped off his pads for another six, reading 83 metres. And Pollard took a single to end the over.

Five was needed off 12 balls and Pollard wrapped it up with a straight six over the bowler Shehan Madushanka.

Prior to Pollard's blitz, opener Paul Stirling couldn't carry on his rich form, out for nought, caught by captain and wicketkeeper Dinesh Chandimal off Angelo Perera.

The Kerala Kings captain Eoin Morgan too fell cheaply for one, castled by Madushanka.

Earlier, Chandimal had scored an unbeaten 38 from 24 balls with five boundaries and a six, while Bhanuka Rajapaksa made a 16-ball 26 with three boundaries and two sixes.

Ramith Rambukwella scored an unbeaten 20 from six deliveries, which was peppered with three sixes.
