Gulf Crisis produced a generation of young people who are aware of the interest of their homeland and capable of managing it despite the circumstances, said Dr Mohammed bin Ghanem Al Maadheed, President of Qatar Red Crescent (QRC).

He added that Qatari charities have succeeded in leaving a humanitarian footprint in various regions of the world through constructive cooperation with relevant United Nations organizations.

In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), President of QRC said that the National Day slogan, ‘Promise of Prosperity and Glory' which is a quote made by the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, reflects the reality and emphasises the elevation of the homeland that is derived from the past, the appreciation of the present and the promise of the future.

He noted that Qatari humanitarian organisations have been able to go a long way in becoming more involved in the international solidarity process, as they play an effective role in mitigating the impact of any disaster or crisis that may occur around the world out of the humanitarian duty felt by the people of Qatar and its civil institutions.

He said that the State of Qatar was able, through its government, citizens and residents, to assure everyone that authenticity of history is connected to the conscience of everyone living on this land. Thus, the commemoration of this occasion moved beyond national celebrations and these values become a reality.

Dr Al Maadheed stated that the efforts and partnerships made by Qatari charities have contributed in alleviating the suffering of victims and enabled them to enjoy their legitimate rights to protection and assistance, expressing hope that such initiatives would open new horizons for the development of relations between Qatari and UN humanitarian organizations.

Qatar Red Crescent is an active member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, which is an international organization with connections to 190 countries.

The amount of assistance provided by QRC to internal and external projects in 2016 amounted to QR190,535,427, while the amount of assistance spent by the Crescent on internal and external projects in 2017 is worth QR138,604,430.
