Qatar expects 1,052 tonnes of dates yield

The number of farms supplying dates in the country has reached 79, and the quantity of dates supply for this year is expected to reach about 1052 tonnes, and the amount allocated for this project is about QR10m, the Minister of Municipality and Environment H E Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi said.

The State of Qatar has made great achievements under the wise leadership, by making qualitative leaps in various fields of development such as economic, political, sports and others and in a record time the State has become got place among the leading countries at regional and international levels, the Minister said in a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the occasion of National Day.

Al Rumaihi outlined important achievements and milestones the Ministry attained in various fields this year.

In the field of agriculture, the local agricultural product marketing project was implemented by supporting the local agricultural fields in the areas of (Al Mazrua, Al Wakra, Al Khor and Al Dhakira) and other three plots are being prepared in Al Shahaniya, Ruwais and Muaither, the Minister said.

In addition, pastures have been developed and rehabilitated including the Mesaieed irrigation project, with a completion rate of 78%, and the achievement of the rehabilitation of the wild land has reached about 50%.
The programme on propagation of important and endangered local wild plants completion rate has reached about 60 percent.

As for livestock, the economic livestock recorded in the Register of Breeders and Herdsmen program at the end of October 2017 was about 1.5 million heads, of which 7.3% were camels, 64.5% sheep, 26.5% goats and 1.7% cows, the Minister said.

Fourteen poultry projects have been licensed and renewed, of which 12 are poultry and two livestock; five are currently producing 2,100 tonnes of poultry meat, 100 tonnes of eggs and 7 projects under establishment with a production capacity of 24.5 thousand tons of poultry meat and 67000 tons of eggs , and two livestock projects, with an operating one producing 405 tons of red meat and 1551 tons of dairy products while the other project under establishment to produce about 40 tons of meat per year.

In the area of programmes and projects, the Minister of Municipality and Environment H E Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi said that the Agricultural Loan Program for the Financing of Livestock in cooperation with the Qatar Development Bank carried out 36 visits to holdings submitted for the purpose of financing breeding animals. It was recommended to finance 31 acquisitions with a total of QR8.25m , 30 of which are areas at cost of QR7.5m and one farm at a cost of QR750,000, he added.

The Ministry has also completed the project of establishing an aquaculture centre and a national program of investment in fish farming has been prepared.

As for inventory assessment and fisheries management, the percentage of achievement was 100% during the year, the Minister stated.

The Minister said the celebration of the country's national day is a commemoration of the founder of the State, the late Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani.

'We are inspired by this remarkable anniversary, and guided by the principles of steadfastness, strength, and determination that characterized him with his wisdom in leadership towards development and prosperity, which was achieved thanks to God and then by the wise leadership of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al -Thani.

HH the Emir continued the process of development and construction, which was led by H H the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, HE the Minister noted.
