Security operations kill 12 rebels in Afghanistan


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISLAMABAD, Dec 15 (KUNA) -- At least 12 rebels have been killed and six others wounded during security operations in various parts of Afghanistan in last 24 hours, said Ministry of Defense (MoD) on Friday.

The operations were conducted during the period in Nangarhar, Paktika, Kandahar, Farah, Faryab, Baghlan, Jawzjan and Helmand provinces of Afghanistan, it said in a statement.

Nine Taliban rebels were killed in the Shah Walikot district of Kandahar and seized their weapon. Two armed militants were killed in Pushtrod district of Farah province and one was killed in Barmal district of southeastern Paktika province where six other rebels were wounded and an arms cache discovered.

During the past 24 hours, six clearing and 16 commando operations in five provinces were conducted, MoD added.

The operations came at a time when Taliban rebels have paced up their attacks across Afghanistan following the announcement of US President Donald Trump to maintain presence of US troops in the war-torn country. (end) sbk.mt
