Celebrations 'will remind younger generation of heritage'


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The president of Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) Dr Mohamed bin Ghanem al-Maadheed has said that Qatar's celebrations on the occasion of the National Day are popular celebrations.
He added that the State is keen on celebrating the National Day to emphasise the country's historic values and customs and to remind the younger generation of the heritage and its roots in the renaissance of the State.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), the QRC president said the National Day slogan, ‘Promise of Prosperity and Glory' which is a quote of His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, reflects the reality and emphasises the elevation of the homeland that is derived from the past, the appreciation of the present and the promise of the future.
He said that the State of Qatar was able, through its government, citizens and residents, to assure everyone that authenticity of history is connected to the conscience of everyone living on this land. Thus, the commemoration of this occasion moved beyond national celebrations and these values become a reality. Dr al-Maadheed stated that Qatar was able, through its leadership and all its components and institutions, to deal with this exceptional situation calmly, rationally and in a diplomatic way, pointing out that Qatar managed to control challenges that may have an economic or social impact on its methodology and strategy.
Additionally, the diplomatic and humanitarian relations established by the state over more than two decades have contributed in strengthening its viewpoint and supporting its vision in finding appropriate solutions to defuse the crisis and back the Gulf, Arab, regional and international mediation.
Furthermore, he said that the Gulf crisis produced a generation of young people who are aware of the interest of their homeland and capable of managing it despite the circumstances. The state also took a sophisticated approach to overcome the crisis through opening various horizons and fields of co-operation with different countries and regions.
Qatar Red Crescent is an active member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
The amount of assistance provided by Qatar Red Crescent to internal and external projects in 2016 amounted to QR190,535,427, while the amount of assistance spent by the Crescent on internal and external projects in 2017 is worth QR138,604,430.
The Red Crescent will announce in the beginning of 2018 the plan to conduct about 25 medical convoys to carry out medical projects such as heart operations and camps for eyes, bones among others in many countries.
