A sound installation "Vertigo" will be presented at Shirvanshah Palace on December 14, at 17:00.

The event is organized within Silk Road Music Festivalheld by Goethe-Zentrum Baku, Day.Az reported. The festival brings together talented singers and artists from Germany, Turkey, Georgia, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.

The installation is a modern interpretation of historical material. Farhad Farzali, the poet Leyli Salayeva, music producer Jahangir Selimkhanov and curator of the exhibition Asli Samadova studied the poem "Seven Beauties" (1197) by great Azerbaijani poet and philosopher Nizami Ganjavi (1141-1209).

Asli Samadova, who since 2015 is engaged in the popularization of creativity by national poet, said that she always wanted to do something related to his work.

After re-reading "the Seven Beauties" in 2013, Asli was amazed by the depth of thought used by metaphors and Nizami's ideas about gender equality.

"Literary plots usually become popular due to films, songs, theatrical productions, etc. Since the moment I learned that the plot of Giacomo Puccini's opera "Turandot" about the hard-hearted Chinese princess was taken from the poem "Seven Beauties", I became really obsessed with the desire to popularize this little-known and little-studied fact," she added.

The work, started by her hasalready given results. Romain Academy of Sciences will host a roundtable on "The history of continuity: from Nizami to Puccini" on February, 2018. The event will bring together professors from the universities of Cambridge, Turin and Genoa.

"In addition to scientific research, I really wanted to popularize the story of the red color in the works by Nizami. This idea came tome when I spoke with other members of "Vertigo" team. I was impressed by Leili`s poetry and Farkhad's work "Mugham-Karaoke," said Samadova.

Since the plot of the work of Nizami has come a long way from Eastern poetry to classical European music, "Vertigo"team wants to capture the full scale and grandeur of this journey. So, the best way of expressing this is the sound installation.

The idea for installation was inspired by the game"Chinese Whisper", known as telephone, in which the players form a line and the first person in the line whispers a message to the ear of the next person in the line.

The same thing happened with Nizami`s history, when new story lines, details were added. In its instillation, creative team uses music as a metaphor and play with ideas about gender roles.

The aria "Nessun Dorma" from Puccini's opera, which is traditionally performed by a male tenor, will sing a chorus of 12 female voices superimposed on each other by means of a computer program. This popular aria and a few more recognizable classical pieces of music will change beyondall recognition.

The themes of intercultural dialogue, interconnection and continuity are illustrated by various transformations of music pieces and texts.

This event is supported by the Icherisheher Historical and Architectural Reserve. Entrance to the exhibition on the presentation day is free.

Visitors will payforexhibition entryfrom December 15.
