Nominations for a new initiative of Qatar Foundation(QF), the ‘Akhlaquna' award, aimed at recognising young people with exemplary moral character will open soon.

H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of QF announced the initiative, during the 2017 edition of QF Convocation held in May.

Nominations and self-nominations as for the award will be called in early 2018 for young people in Qatar between the age of 15 and 35, said Noor Al Maadeed, Head of Community Engagement, Community Development, QF yesterday.

Nominees are expected to be who best embody the four morals of the Akhlaquna initiative — mercy, tolerance, honesty, and generosity.

'We will call for nominations in early 2018. Eligible candidates can do self nominations, or nominate someone. It's open for Qataris and residents between the age of 15 and 35. We have set a age group because we are trying to encourage values among the younger generation, Al Maadeed told The Peninsula speaking on the sidelines of ‘Qatar Foundation Thriving Together,' event.

'An individual or a project which has made an impact by a Qatari or resident can be nominated. But the project can be within or outside Qatar, she added.

All nominations will be examined by an expert judging panel and deserving candidates will be shortlisted. The award winner will be chosen by the public voting through online voting. According to Al Maadeed, a web site www.akhlaquna.qa will also be launched soon.

'The award winner will be announced and awarded in May coinciding with QF convocation 2018, she said.

Speaking about the significance of the Akhlaquna initiative, Al Maadeed said that it's a great way of encouraging young people. 'I think it would really show the young generation that the changes are in their hands, so they have to work to make the change that they want to see in the world, in Qatar or any other place, she added.
