Doha: The Ministry of Municipality and Environment opened another new family public park at Elaab area of Al Daayen Municipality yesterday.
The new 'Elaab Family Park is part of the plan of the Public Parks Department at the Ministry to build more new public parks and increase the green areas in the country.
The park measuring a total area of 4,447sqm, includes children's playgrounds, modern entertainment facilities, various services, energy saving lighting, advanced automatic irrigation system, a range of ornamental plants, palm trees, green spaces, flowers and soil cover.
The park will be provided with wireless Internet access in the near future. 'Many public parks will be opened at Al Daayen Municipality and other parts of the country in near future, said Mohamad Ibrahim Al Sada, Deputy Director of Public Parks while talking to The Peninsula on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony of the park.
Regarding services like cafeteria and free-wifi service at public parks, Al Saada said that most of new parks or those renovated have cafeteria.
'The Department is working to provide cafeteria in all parks portacabin or portable kiosks as per the needs, he added.
Regarding free-wifi, Al Sada said we are working to provide free Internet service to most of public parks even the small ones in a certain range in collaboration with the company. This service is already available at many parks.
To increase the greenery across the country, the Public Parks Department is running an initiative to support setting up home gardens. 'As per the initiative we offer service for making designs of home gardens and provide plants for designs free of cost, said Deputy Director of the Department, Al Sada.
'To avail the service, the interested candidates can submit their requests at the Public Parks Department, he added.
Mishal Abdullah Al Naimi, a member of Central Municipal Council (CMC) has demanded from the Public Parks Department to build more play areas for children at the parks.
Talking to The Peninsula, Al Naimi said: 'We want more play areas equipped with verities of games for children at public parks because main purpose of the park is to entertain the children and families.
'Other things are good, we appreciate the Department for opening so many parks at my constituency and provided all necessary facilities, he added.
'The new park is located at mid of the residential area giving opportunity to the maximum numbers of residents to benefit from this, said Mubarak Matar Al Kuwari, Director of the Al Daayen Municipality.
He said that the new park will begin receiving the visitors from today and will be open in the morning and evening. 'Elaab Park was opened on the occasion of the Qatar National Day, said Faisal Muhsin Al Hajari, Head of Park Section at Al Daayen Municipality.
