(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Omanis earning up to RO600 will receive 200lt of M91 petrol per month at a cost of not more than 180bz per litre. This was decided by the Follow-up Committee in Charge of Fuel Priceson Wednesdaywhich announced the mechanism and terms for subsidising fuel prices for certain categories of Omanis.
This is as part of the care accorded by the government to ensure the welfare of Omanis and in implementation of the decision of the Council of Ministers to reduce the effects of fuel price and ensure social justice principle among different sections of the society.
The mechanism relies on the system that connects the ROP system with all fuel marketing companies to ensure accuracy and smooth implementation. This mechanism will include all sections of society who meet the following requirements: Every Omani above 18 years who owns a vehicle registered with the ROP or a fishing boat registered with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries subject to his total monthly income from all sources not exceeding RO600.
The committee has capped the quantity at 200lt based on data of theregisteredvehicles and fuel consumption in the last five years. The quantity is in line with the average consumption of Omani families as per the statistics of the National Centre for Statistics and Information.
Based on the subsidy terms, the categories covered include all Omani employees, entrepreneurs, job seekers, students, housemaids and retirees, as well as fishermen who meet the said eligibility terms.
The special mechanism for the farmers will be announced soon.
Omanis who meet the requirements are required to register on the national subsidy system website
The system will be effective from January 2018.
