(MENAFN) Charges against Massachusetts former state senator Brian A. Joyce were made last week of him gathering roughly one million dollars in activities of bribery and kickbacks he supposedly laundered through his company.
The Boston Globe reported that the 55 year old Democrat also received from a Dunkin' Donuts store owner free coffee which amounted to hundreds of pounds in return for his authority.
The paper reported that Joyce was arrested Friday and is ahead of federal charges including money laundering, corruption, mail fraud and embezzlement.
During a news conference, acting US Attorney William Weinreb announced "Brian Joyce represented over 100,000 Massachusetts citizens in the state Legislature, he had a duty to serve them honestly. And he violated that duty by accepting bribes and kickbacks in exchange for his official action."
