The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan has hosted a meeting of the Expert Council on Transport and Logistics.

At the meeting, it was noted that the share of motor transport accounts for more than 53.4 percent of Uzbekistan's total cargo turnover and more than 95 percent of total cargo transport in the country.

The participants of the meeting voiced problems and obstacles that adversely affect the development of the transportation sphere in Uzbekistan.

It was noted that the pace of renewal of vehicles greatly lags behind the dynamics of economic growth in Uzbekistan. One-third of the country's truck fleet consists of outdated vehicles.

It was also noted that high tax rates are one of the reasons for tax evasion by international carriers, even when using preferential taxation regimes.

A representative of the association of international freight forwarders of Uzbekistan spoke about excessive bureaucracy in drafting direct contracts between the international freight forwarding company and Uzbekistan Railways JSC for the provision of international transportation services.
