100 determined people get a new life at Dubai hospital

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Wheel-chair bound Mohamed Rabeeh, 25, had a tough time finding a job in his home country India.

"I was frustrated as I found not many companies have the courage to employ a person of determination," he said.

Rabeeh was lucky enough to get picked up by Dubai's Aster Volunteers programme that aims to provide equal employment opportunities to 100 people of determination in the group's workforce.

Rabeeh, who now works in the insurance department at Aster Makhool hospital, said: "In the last two months of being here, my life feels completely renewed. I can do every single thing without being dependent on anyone."

On Monday evening, Aster DM Healthcare hosted it's 30th anniversary where the group highlighted its social responsibility initiatives under its Aster Volunteers umbrella that has benefited over 497,000 lives in the Middle East and India.

Addressing the guests at the evening, Dr Azad Moopen, founder, chairman and managing director of Aster DM Healthcare, talked about what 30 years in the business of health has taught him and why it is important to make more effort to give back to society.

"Aster Volunteer programme aims at supporting the underserved population and marginalised patients. To mark 30 years in service, Aster launched Aster Volunteers. This ongoing healthcare and wellness programme focuses on spreading the message of hope and care by bringing together like-minded people," he said.

Taking charge of the Aster Volunteers, Dr Zeba Moopen, director of special projects at Aster DM Healthcare, said: "Aster Volunteers took birth with Aster@30. Giving to society was not something new to us as we had been doing that for the last 30 years behind closed doors, but this year we decided to scale it up. We decided to start a taskforce outside our workforce outside Aster."

Highlighting the achievements of Aster Volunteers in the last six months, Zeba said: "Aiming to recruit 100 recruits of determination, we have till date recruited 66 people of determination into the Aster work force till date."

The group has also conducted over 11,000 free surgeries and investigations; 1,300 medical camps, trained over 100,000 in Basic Life Support (BLS) awareness: and distributed 170,000 food packs among Somali and Rohingya refugees.
