UAE- Here is a phone app to water your plants

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Very often, plant lovers travelling outside of the UAE on a long holiday come back to see that all their plants have dried-up or are dead.

To prevent this, home garden enthusiasts are often faced with having to donate their plants to other gardeners or place it under the care of public nurseries for a steep price.

Chinese company Ningbo Yinzhou Fuqiang Electrical Appliances and Metal Products Factory have developed a device and an app that helps plant-lovers water their plants from any given remote location.

Participating in the China Home Life, organised by the MEOrient International Exhibition, the company displayed its latest product - an automatic plant watering metallic frame. The three-day trade exhibition for Chinese-made home appliances concluded at the Dubai World Trade Centre on Tuesday.

Kathy Zhu, trade manager of the electrical appliances company, said: "We haven't come up with a shorter name of the device yet. It was developed about two months ago." Furthermore, the water used on the plants is recycled and needs to be changed only at regular intervals.

With the device, gardening enthusiasts can place up to three-four flower pots inside the metallic frame and connect it to their home or office WiFi network. "After that you need to download the app and connect any device to the frame. At the click of a button, you can water all plants inside the frame," she added. Timings to water the plants can be preset and the quantity can also be customised.

"You don't need to be home, you can click the buttons from your office or any remote location. It's perfect for long-time travellers," said Zhang Jianfei, the developer of the product. "The biggest benefit is that the water is recycled. The water inlet at the bottom of the case pumps water into the plants at any given time," he said. Since the plants are placed on another metallic pot holder, the soil on the bottom of the plants remain fresh. Apart from a floor-type metal case, the company has also developed a wall-mounted case for plants.

Jianfei has also developed a second metallic case that can be charged using solar panels. The solar-powered case provides the same functions, but it cannot be hooked up to a WiFi network. "Plant watering times need to be entered manually. We're working on developing the product," he added.
