Putin visits Cairo to boost regional alliances: analysts

(MENAFN)Analysts thought that the current visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin to Egypt expresses both countries' willingness to build a strategic cooperation with the growing of anger against the US in the Arab region.

Putin met Egyptian President Abdul Fattah Al Sissi in Cairo, on Monday for the eighth time since February 2014.

Russian passenger plane crash in Sinai in 2015 that killed all the 224 people on board and forced Russia to cut off its flights to Egypt has led to shakiness in the relationships between Cairo and Moscow.

"Despite some difficulties currently facing the Egyptian-Russian ties in the fields of aviation and Russian tourists' return, their relations are ... [poised] to enter the stage of a long-term strategic alliance," said Hassan Abu Taleb, an expert at the state-run Al Ahram Centre for Political Studies.
