Pakistan- Trade activities suspended on Torkham as deadlock on 'Weebok registration' persist

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) TORKHAM: Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of border as deadlock over new online system to clear trucks under new online system called ‘Weboc Registration' continues between Customs Clearance Agents and Customs Department.

The differences brought trading activities to a complete halt, causing millions of losses to traders on both sides of Torkham crossing due to the deadlock.

The CAA agents refused to accept to follow rules under the new Weboc online system that was implemented on Tuesday and boycotted their duties.

The protesting agents association president Hayatullah said that it needed 12MB internet speed to operate the software for clearance of trucks while there was only 2Mb service available at the agency. They said that it took to an hour to clear one vehicle due to slow internet speed.

On the other hand, Customs officials said that not a single truck would be allowed entry or exit without clearance under the new system.

The agents have been protesting for the last two months against the new system. The government withdrawn its decision to introduce the new online system after the agents launched a protest drive.

Meanwhile, transporters said that they were sandwitched in differences between the Customs Department and clearance agents.
