12 Dec 2017

While the top batting and bowling records are widely known across the cricketing audiences, there are some bizarre cricket stats which are unique in their own way but are less known.

2004 Asia Cup

In the 2004 Asia Cup against Bangladesh, Pakistan's Mohammad Sami entered the record books for bowling the longest over in international cricket.

Sami bowled 17 deliveries which included 7 wides, 4 no-balls, conceding a total of 22 runs.

However, New Zealand's Bert Vance bowled the longest over in cricket history with 22 deliveries during a domestic mach, Wellington vs Canterbury, in 1990.

Fact

Highest number of runs conceded without a single legitimate delivery
Abdur Rehman

Pakistan's Abdur Rehman during 2014 Asia Cup match against Bangladesh conceded 8 runs, the most runs conceded without bowling a single legitimate delivery.

While a bowler is taken off the attack after more than one full toss delivery above waist, Rehman was allowed to continue even after a second beamer, who then went on to deliver another full toss before being pulled off.

Out for obstructing the field
Unique way to get out

Only ever once in Test cricket was a batsman given out for obstructing the field, Englishman Len Hutton in 1952.

In ODIs, Rameez Raza, Mohinder Amarnath, Inzamam

Haq, Mohammed Hafeez, Anwar Ali, Ben Stokes, hold this dubious distinction. Interestingly, most of them are Pakistani players.

England's Jason Roy is the first and only cricketer to be dismissed for field obstruction in T20Is, in June 2017.
