Conference on preventive diplomacy in Central Asia held in Ashgabat

"UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia: 10 years of cooperation with Central Asia for the sake of peace and prosperity of the region" international conference was held in Ashgabat, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The event was held on the occasion of the decade since the opening of this center in the Turkmen capital.

Opening remarks to the participants of the conference were made by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov.

Meredov said the opening of this center with the support of all the states of the region once again confirmed the unity of the course of the world community for creating conditions for cooperation of the countries of Central Asia with the UN and other international organizations.

A plenary session entitled "Preventive diplomacy in action: world experience, interaction of regional organizations and UN structures" was held within the framework of the event.

It was also noted that in the ten years since its establishment, the Ashgabat Center has become "an excellent platform for regional dialogue on the management of common resources, as well as for cooperation in combating terrorism and militant extremism, organized crime, drugs and trafficking in human beings."
