QND cricket blockbuster: Misbah and Dilshan lead Doha star cast

Recently-retired Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal will join his former team-mate and highly successful Test captain Misbah Ul Haq in a three-match series to celebrate Qatar's National Day.

Ajmal, who said goodbye to all forms of cricket a few days ago, is one of top names to feature in matches to be played on December 15, 17 and 18, organisers Ibn Ajayan Projects (IAP) revealed yesterday.

Misbah, who captains Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), retired from Test cricket in May this year following a successful career.

Former Indian opener Waseem Jafar is also one of the players of the Asian Stars XI.

Dashing opening batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan, now retired, will also feature in the series, Sajjad Mohammed Hussain Chaudhary, CEO of Pro Event, said at a press conference yesterday.

Hard-hitting Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal will be joined by Pakistani fast bowlers Wahab Riaz and Umar Gul, organisers said.

'We are bringing world-class cricketers from around the world for the QND celebrations, Chaudhary said.

'There will be a three-match series of matches between ‘Qatar Stars' and ‘Asian Stars' on December 15, 17 and 18 at the Asian Town Cricket Stadium, he added.

'Many international players from India, Pakistan, Sri lanka and Bangladesh are participating in the matches representing the two teams. The names include Wahab Riaz, Fawad Alam, Misbah ul Haq, Saeed Ajmal, Umar Gul, Kamran Akmal, Salman Butt, Sami Aslam, Imam ul Haq, Waseem Jafar, Laxmi Balali, S Badrinath, Tillakeratne Dilshan, Dilhara Fernado, Maharoof, Jeevan Mendis, Tamim Iqbal, Arafat Sunny, and Inam ul Haq, he said.

'At Pro Event, we have been organising cricket tournaments for the last three years. This year's National Day celebrations - held under the patronage of Ministry of Interior - will is something special as we see it as an opportunity showcase our love and respect for this country, he said.

Pro Event, one of the organizers, is an international event management company, specializing in sports event.

'We can see a growing interest for the game of cricket in Qatar, he said. 'One of the best ways to develop the game is by arranging such hugely popular matches, he said.

Qatar Stars players include Ch Iqbal (captain), Kamran Khan, Tamoor Sajjad( vice captain), Rizlan Iqbar (wicketkeeper), Zaheer Ibrahim, Inam ul Haq, Nadeem Aslam, Imran Asharaf, Faisal Khan, Mohammed Tanveer,

Nouman Sarwar, Aslim Ali, Aqib Javed, Awais Malik, Khurram Shehazad, Ushantha Madushanka, Ikramullah Khan and Mohammed Murad.
