(MENAFN) After a politically harmful scandal has emerged of his affairs with a Chinese businessman, Australian senator Sam Dastyari has promised to step down from his position.
One year after he first happened to be involved in a donation scandal, the senator has been stuck amid quite a number of allegations during recent days.
The resignation of Senator Dastyari follows growing fears over the power of China in Australian politics. However, China spoke out last week rejecting the claim of meddling in Australian affairs.
The senator spoke out Tuesday saying "I have been guided by my Labor values, which tell me that I should leave if my ongoing presence detracts from the pursuit of Labor's mission. It is evident to me we are at that point, so I will spare the party any further distraction."
